Diary of our COVID 19 Lockdown | December 2021

In March 2020 I decided to do a Lockdown Diary, these were weekly but with the return to a bit more normality, kids back to school everything starting to open, I moved it to Monthly. With us still, in and out of Lockdown each month we were continuing through our Daily Life and Journey as a family.

Diary december 22

Its Christmas!

It was December and Christmas, my favourite time of the year and in our household a time where we normally go all out to celebrate as much as we can. The kids break up from school, and some more family Birthdays add to the fun however with the news of the new variant Omicron it’s potentially dashing the enjoyment of it all.

I could tell the kids were a little bit of a countdown to the holidays, and to be honest, these holidays are for much anticipated with Xmas than any other time of the year. Roo was still rushed off her feet being in her school show and was having late days, leaving at 7.30 in the morning and not getting back till 8 or 9 pm in the evening, with show week getting her home at 10.30 pm.

Piglet though was also in something for her school, she participated in her first proper Nativity show, last year for obvious reasons things like this were all cancelled, so this year was her first chance to shine. With the news of Omicron circling at the time, we were worried that this was going to be cancelled once again, the same with Roos show. However luckily the show went on! and for Piglet we saw her Nativity.

Low budget Christmas

This year though we were having a more relaxed low budget Xmas, as I said earlier we normally try to go all out, but we budgeted all year and decided not to go overboard, with money tight and the uncertainty still around it just made sense. 2022 with very much be the same as we look to save money etc, with the older kids we had already explained before birthdays that it would be more of that low key time.

However, the kids still did well with presents with plenty of smaller items that they wanted including the odd game that they had put on their list. we tend to use amazon wish lists which gives them a chance to look and add things that they might want (we do piglets), but this also allows others to see what they are after, it is the easiest and most efficient way and saves them getting anything that’s perhaps a little gamble or for someone that might not know what their current interests are.

As for Christmas time (and birthdays) it was a tough one for a couple of reasons, but we managed to pull together and still make it a good one, the week may have been busy but it’s ultimately all worth it. December is a busy month worth posts, the kids, presents, decorations and the food but it’s good to sit back at the end a think back on how it went. I love my family and this time of year always reminds me of that and the joy of spending time together whatever happens.

New year.

Next month is the start of a new year! maybe a change in what’s been going on? who knows but this year for us may just be a head down and get on with it a year. For me it’s all about resetting and planning for the next few years, Tigger goes to high school, Roo will be on the rundown to the end of school.
