It is often a case that we feel stressed and anxious at different stages in our lives and for different reasons. After all, some of us have better-coping mechanisms than others. Both men and women worry about different things that can cause stress and anxiety. But the difference between men and women is that women talk more than men.

Women often will offload on their close friends and their partners. They are more open about these things and are more open to feedback and advice. Men, however, take on a lot of the worry themselves and prefer to often keep it to themselves. Until it gets to breaking point. But what are the main differences when it comes to the worries that men and women have?

A man’s health is one of the biggest causes of stress and anxiety in their life. It can be quite confusing as a lot of the time men don’t like to discuss certain health issues. Men are least likely to attend a doctor’s appointment and share concerns about their health until the last minute.

Especially for more sensitive health concerns like erectile dysfunction or any form of health issues that might show a little weakness like a mental health struggle or a physical ailment. The way to alleviate the stress some of these issues can cause is by seeking some medical advice as soon as you can. 

Marriage

Marriage can be a huge cause of stress and anxiety in a man’s life. Especially when the marriage is hitting a crisis point. A lot of men don’t like to talk about their feelings, but it doesn’t mean they don’t have them. There are a lot of factors that can cause stress in a marriage. Things like parenthood, In-laws and sexual frustration to name a few.

Many women would be happy to discuss these issues at great length. But some men don’t like to talk too much about it. You can ease the stress and anxiety that a problematic marriage can cause by communicating more. Or seeking some therapy to discuss the issues. The sooner issues are addressed the better. 

Work  

Having a career or even just having a job can be a real cause of stress for anyone. But a lot of men don’t like to admit if they are having problems for fear of looking weak. A lot of the stress people will feel is down to finding the right work/life balance. If work is taking over your life, then this can be the biggest cause of stress and may lead to other problems.

Stress at work can easily be solved by reducing workload or speaking to your employer for help and advice. While this is easier said than done, it can be a great step in the right direction. You can also look at how you handle your workload by trying differing coping techniques and time management skills. 

Finances

Your financial situation can have a real strain on your mind. With things like high debt levels being the main cause. Other causes of financial stress can be low savings rates and a volatile stock market. Making bad choices with your finances can cause you many problems.

Financial stress can have a big effect on how you live and also may cause further problems. Men tend to take ownership of things like this so it can cause you more stress than usual if you don’t share the burden of financial decisions. 

The future

Men will also worry about the future just as much as women can. They can worry about their children’s futures. Their finances for the future with pensions and investments. Even their career path and life choices can all cause stress and anxiety when they worry about the future. The future is uncertain for everyone, and because of that, it can cause a lot of stress and anxiety.

While a lot of women will openly share this, most men like to look like they are in control of the situation, and the future is one of those things they prefer to look more secure with. 

Stress and anxiety will affect anybody, there is no hiding from that and the reasons may differ. But hopefully highlighting them might help encourage you to reduce the stress in your life.
