Family Multiplayer Competitiveness

As a family some of us are gamers, Boo many moons ago did some gaming, Piglet is still too young but learning, I have gamed for years, Roo has for a little while but in the last couple of years has done more, Tigger though loves games. Very rarely do 4 of us get a chance to sit down and play games together but when we do there is competitiveness.

competitiveness

Over the years I’ve played with all three where  Roo and Tigger certainly play more together now with Games like Minecraft, Lego Dimensions, Skylanders, a variety of lego games and Rocket league, they both own a PS4 now as this tends to be their choice most of the time.

Last Christmas Santa gave Tigger a Nintendo switch, with the instructions to share with his family, since then he has played games like Mario Odyssey, sonic, Mario kart etc… He now has a list of the game he wants to buy but these are largely all family of children-friendly games.

What Kicked off the Competitiveness?

But Mario Kart has sparked the competitiveness of us all, we have played 4 player Mario kart both In the battle mode and the race mode, we all have our own characters, (I’m Toad no reflection on my life lol), this has seen some pretty tense battles, determined faces, mocking and celebration from all. We don’t always have time to play with the kids In this situation, being parents is planning, organising teaching, telling etc… But this allowed us to just let go and have fun.

Generally, we aren’t competitive but clearly, we have an underlying need to be race drivers and win, and in the spirit of family fun, it’s brought us closer together because we are able to quite easily play together. With the console you get 2 joycons which can be broken into two half’s, we bought another pack of joycons which allowed us to have four players. The great thing with the Nintendo Switch is the variety of controller options, and actually saves money if you wanted to buy 4 controllers compared to both PS4 and Xbox One as they come with and buying 4 can be pricey.

Our future battles?

There are other gamers down the road we will play as a family, super smash bros maybe, Mario party is a definite one for us, even games like Minecraft and lego Tigger wants to play as he can take the switch anywhere, another benefit of the switch. As they get older, we may have a look at some of the cool shooting games on the market too. I’m ready looking forward to our next game so I can Red shell Boo!

We got a Nintendo switch are Christmas for the family. I find myself playing just dance 19 with the girls. Kind of like a winner stays on basis so it sparks the competitiveness within us all. Mouse my 8yr old Step daughter has caught the Crash Bandicoot bug from mum and has become really good at it, surprising tbh as she doesn’t seem the gamer type. She enjoys it so much in fact all she wants to do is play it, so we’ve had to lay down some screen time rules. The adult control settings for the switch are pretty good, alarm sounds when it’s time to take a break and if any of them try to turn it off me and the Mrs get a notification on our phones to alert us of this.

Will be looking at more games such as Mario kart in the coming months.

I haven’t played games in ages but if you would invite me to a Mario Kart game right now, I would not refuse. I think this is one of those games that will always be fun to play with your family.

Healthy competition is always good and I think that is how kids learn right? Love the games that are out there at the moment. So much more interaction is available and also the visual aspect is much better

My two little ones have recently started wanting to play computer games together which is lovely to see. They currently use an xbox but I have been considering getting them a switch as it seems much easier for them to play games together on. Love that you can have 4 players on Mario Kart though!

In the last 12 months my son, who just turned eight, has discovered game play. It was relaxed at first, as he simply had a game that he could build cars and do small tasks. Brilliant for him. Now he has entered the world of racing, and it has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride. He doesn’t always cope with the competitiveness. But I try to encourage enjoyment, and perseverance. Gaming can be such fun, and I really am a sucker for Mario games!

My kids are desperate for a Switch so that they can play mario kart but I;m not sure I could cope with how competitive we would all get.
