Loot Crate | Lord of the Rings | There and Back Again

Loot Crates are mystery box that can be bought on their website or as part of a subscription and can be complete or mystery or can be themed, though it’s not always clear in advance what will be in them thus the mystery. This box is the third in a special trilogy of boxes, unfortunately, like before these have been delayed but this was the final one and we finally got it after a few issues.

There and Back again

“End? No, the journey doesn’t end here, Death is another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it…White shores…and beyond a far green country under a swift sunrise”

The box comes with its usual outside generic black design for posting but the inside shows the middle earth map, along with this is the companion leaflet, which again both look good as the previous ones.

“Good in this world” Journal

“If you ever find yourself lost in the darkness remember that it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. A new day will come, and when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer, you still have a story to tell.” This is a really nice journal with the design based around that older feel, the print with the “Good in this world Mr Frodo” sits on the front, there’s often journals in crates and these are very useful and often nice, this is a good one.

Lembas Coin Purse

“Don’t Worry, there’s still enough for the journey home, Even Lembas stays fresh for an age when wrapped in mallorn leaves, a favoured food of travellers may your fortunes stay as sweet.” This is an excellent representation of the leaf-wrapped bread, and a point of the film about the return journey home, using it as a coin purchase is a clever use, may not be the most practical but it a really neat touch.

Gondor Pillow

“Here do you swear fealty and service to Gondor, in the peace or war, in living or dying, from this hour henceforth, until your lord release you….or death take you.” Now the pillow is great, it a little odd and out of the blue, but actually it’s nice to have, I assume the idea is when the vows are being said he’s kneeling on this? but I’m not sure, however, it’s a quality and excellent part of the set.

Aragorn and Boromir socks

“with his final breath, Boromir son of Gondor, did swear to Aragon, I would have followed you my brother, my captain, my king, …and now he shall” If you read the previous box you will I love the socks! and the chance to get more was something I was hoping for in this third box! and we did they look excellent. If your a fan of funky socks then these are for you lol.

Merry and Pippin Socks

“You need people of intelligence on this sort of mission…quest…thing. But you’ve got Merry and Pippin anyway,” Merry and Pippin were the minimum of socks I wanted as I thought if these were limited and least have all 4 hobbits, but these like Frodo and Bilbo are also really good, all similar design with just slight tweaks in there face and clothes.

One Ring necklace

“IT is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. Such a little thing, We are fortunate that the ring was taken deep into Mordor and cast back into the fiery chasm from whence it came” I like the reference as Boromir made part of that statement while holding the ring and chain in the snow, it doesn’t look excellent and on a small chain that probably would need replacing, but I only knock is that there’s been a ring variant in every box.

Exclusive Mordor Fleece

“and this was the fourth age of middle earth began, and the fellowship of the ring, though eternally bound by friendship and love, was ended, thank you, friends, who stood by us through this entire journey, you bow to no one” This was a Trilogy bonus? urm well no, to originally this was a hoody, and some point we’ve moved to a fleece,

it’s black with the eye of Sauron on it, and the Mordor ring writing on one arm, this is fine though a little underwhelming for this, as the trilogy was advertised as this being extra if you bought all three, being printed in the boom and just one of the places indicated perhaps it wasn’t, a little misleading from Loot Crate once again.

Gondor Banner

Something extra, we also found ourselves with a Gondor banner, much like the Rohan banner from Box 2, this banner depicts Gondor symbols, I’m not sure why we have this but nothing was really said about it, a little odd.

Overall

Overall this box is still good, whether it was worth the price is up for debate, much like the other two the crates are good, there was a lot of delays…alot.. by months and months, and they had issues but overall I’m ok with the trilogy there were some excellent parts, the socks, for example, the pillow and coin purse look great in this one.

The story and theme of each box are ok, this one though looked a little lost, I thought it would focus more on the third film and the end of the story, even with the title I thought it would do but no not really, just a little mix of things.  I’m disappointed with the Fleece, it’s ok, but I don’t like fleece style jumpers and would have influenced m decision,

I know they had problems with it, and it suddenly appears in the book at the end concerns me, as it was a trilogy purchase bonus, in other words, you have to buy all three, being in the book on third suggests you would have got it if you just bought this one, but anyway. I love LOTR and Tigger and I still enjoy all things LOTR so we obviously enjoyed most of the stuff, if your not a fan of LOTR or on the fence, this one is perhaps not for you.
