Making Christmas magical for your kids this year: How you can do it

Making Christmas magical for your kids this year: How you can do it, Christmas is such a special time of the year for the family. You get to enjoy seeing family and friends, spending time together and enjoying people’s company. There is the festive cheer, the gifts, the decorating of your home and all of the food. But the one thing that most parents will agree with is that Christmas is magical because of your children.

Christmas

When you are a child there is nothing like that feeling of seeing Santa and the lead-up to Christmas morning. However, as you get older, you notice that it isn’t the same. That is until you have kids and you become the magic. You are now responsible for making that magic that you experienced as a child and some would argue it is even better. So how do you make Christmas magical for kids? Here are some of the ideas to consider.

Christmas pyjamas

One of the first things to consider would be Christmas pyjamas. Some parents choose to give them their little ones at the beginning of the month, while others like to have new Christmas pyjamas for Christmas eve. You could get matching sets for siblings or the whole family to enjoy, or just buy ones specific to the interests of your children. It is such a small way to start the magic, and the kids can get really excited about it.

Visiting Santa

If you want to add the magic then a visit to Santa is essential. There are so many ways that you can do this and no matter what budget you have, in your kid’s eyes it will feel magical. You can go to Lapland and meet Santa, spend money on big days out where you are on trains or visiting Santa in special grottos, or you can visit a shopping centre Santa and still get that special look on your little ones’ faces. Remember, it is the belief in the person and not the surroundings that your children are bothered about. Try not to put pressure on yourself with this one.

Elf on the shelf

Another thing to not feel pressure over is the elf on the shelf. A tradition that has come from America more and more UK families are embracing the elf on the shelf. However, it isn’t for everyone. This is a choice that you can make. It can make the month of December magical as your children eagerly await to see what the elf has done or if they have moved. But it isn’t an essential part of the Christmas magic.

Christmas events

You might also find that you want to embrace some Christmas events throughout the month of December. There are so many things on offer when you take to Google. Whether it is woodland walks or breakfasts with Santa, you are bound to find something that you can enjoy that is within your budget.

Christmas lights switch on

There is something quite magical about a Christmas light switch on. Whether that is heading to the city or bracing your local town’s event. It is a great way to kick off the festivities and the children love seeing all of the lights.

Noticing the Christmas lights locally

On the subject of lights another thing you could do would be to take a walk locally at night and look at everyone’s lights. This is only applicable if you live somewhere where there are a few horses with lights. It is a lovely thing to do and completely free.

Decorating your home

It is always a magical time when you start decorating your home for Christmas, so why not get the kids involved this year? Let them decorate the tree or let them have their own this year where they can add what they want to it.

Christmas eve boxes

Another tradition that has taken hold in the UK is Christmas Eve boxes. This is a lovely way to add excitement to Christmas eve, especially if your children are a little over-excited. They can include all sorts of things and be as big or as small as you want them to be. You could include pyjamas, treats, drinks, games, and books. There is plenty of inspiration online.

Sticking with the traditions

Make sure to stick to your traditions. This is what adds to the magic and is often the thing that your children will remember and tell their own families one day. They may even continue with the traditions themselves.

Making a new tradition

Don’t be afraid to make a new tradition. Create a Christmas eve box, start elf on the shelf, or watch a film on a particular night. Each year you could make a new tradition to add to your December fun.

Hopefully, these suggestions will help you to make Christmas magical this year.
