As each month goes by my Diary from a Dad looks at what’s happening with our little family, through all the adventures, challenges and obstacles that come to our lives. As a family of 5, with 3 children at different ages every day, week and month can offer something different. It was October and my favourite time of the year, this month also saw Halloween a holiday time that we normally make a big deal about, but in the new house how would it go?

That time of year
As I said it’s my favourite time of the year, Autumn, full of change of weather, pumpkin spice latte, school days, closing nights, and the hype for both Halloween and Xmas. For us the kid’s birthdays are also in touching distancing with all 3 due for November, so last-minute prep was in order and long with Half term week, which historically was always a busy week.
Halloween
I normally do a Halloween post so I won’t talk too much about it here, but need less to say after moving we approach the decorating a little bit more reserved. A small display in windows and our inflatable arch/door was the extent, though with the shape of the door it was far better design this time. The same approach was also for Trick or Treating, we weren’t super clear on the area for how busy it would be. But we were prepared and it went reasonably well.
The main bulk of the month was of course normal work, School an family life, as we continued to settle into the new house, though with Halloween decorations it’s beginning to feel much more like home. Much like everything else we were getting into that rhythm into what and where things live, and how our days go, especially the kids with them being within walking distance from school now and Boo and I changing working patterns again to accommodate kids etc.
London Trip
Half Term is historically a big week for us in October, it’s the one we try to pack things into as we know that we calm down a little until Feb, including frequent visits to theme parks, Butlins, pumpkin patches, and other special places around the country. This year though was a little mixed as we had to sacrifice some annual leave for the move and with everything that has happened recently not a lot was planned. Some small family local outings like the circus, cinema, shopping etc, but a London trip for Piglet and Boo was the highlight, while they were busy the three of us took some time around westfield white city.
Next Busy month
November though, is the busy time of the year on with all the kid’s birthdays and Xmas prep, along with our normal balancing act of busy times and family life, Roo was resitting her English exams to squeeze a slightly better grade out of her already ok result which would help her in the future, so lets see how we get on next month.
